Nathan Kirkman is an award-winning, Chicago-based photographer who specializes in photographing architecture and design for editorial and commercial clients.
After finding his first camera in a trash can of the U.S. Capitol building at the age of ten, he followed his interest in photography to the Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York.
Promoting his work with architects, interior designers and magazines, Nathan quickly began getting assignments, which have taken him as far as Jordan, Italy, and France; he also frequently travels around the United States for work.
He finds that, "clients and other creatives are an endless source of inspiration". He says, "I’m lucky enough to work with some very talented designers and companies. Some of the solutions they come up with as the answer to a design problem or new product are a testament to the ongoing conversation between art and commerce."
"I’ve been lucky enough to get a wide variety of really interesting assignments, like photographing a luxury Villa in Lake Como Italy, or photographing a celebrity like Martyn Lawrence Bullard or a hunter for Field & Stream Magazine. The best assignments will always be the ones that allow for collaboration with the client."
Nathan is highly skilled at lighting room sets and reflective products like chrome and stainless steel (both on set and location).
He's also been working on a couple of interesting motion projects. One, a brand video for La Cornue, can be viewed below.
